On 14 October, Ambassador Suzuki hosted a reception in support of Guardian Girls (GGN) to mark the official launch of the organisation’s activities.
Guardian Girls International (GGI) is an organisation dedicated to empowering girls and women through sports and martial arts. The reception was attended by the Chairman and Secretary General of Guardian Girls International, Mr Shin Koyamada, together with the President of Guardian Girls Africa, Ms Mary Obande, and other representatives.

In his speech, Ambassador Suzuki noted that the Japanese Government and Guardian Girls International share a common aspiration to build a society where women and girls can live free from the fear of violence, feel safe, and realise their full potential. He also pointed out that, through martial arts, women and girls can discover their own strengths, build self-confidence, and develop the courage to face challenges. They can also learn to value their own dignity whilst respecting the dignity of others.
In addition, a total of four Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were signed between GGI and Yakubu Gowon University (formerly the University of Abuja), as well as the Aikido Association, the Nigeria Pencak Silat Association and the Nigerian Vovinam Federation.
