Japan Supports Improved Medical Waste Management in Enugu State

On 15 September 2026, Ms. DEGUCHI Wakana and Mr. ADEJOH Isaiah, Coordinators of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Ifeyinwa Ani-Osheku,the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency in Enugu to discuss the GGP-funded provision of a medical waste incinerator at Abakpa Health Centre, East Enugu Local Government Area.
Implemented by the South Saharan Development Organization, the project will strengthen safe medical waste management, contributing to a cleaner and safer healthcare environment for patients, health workers and surrounding communities.
The Executive Secretary expressed appreciation for the Government of Japan’s support, noting that the project, alongside ongoing developments at the health centre by the Enugu State Government, could serve as a model for other primary healthcare centres in the state.
