Mr. KOZAKI Hitoshi, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. attended the commissioning ceremony of the upgraded Apapa Road Transmission Substation in Lagos

On 17 August 2026, Mr. KOZAKI Hitoshi, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria, attended the commissioning ceremony of the upgraded Apapa Road Transmission Substation in Lagos.
The substation was rehabilitated and reinforced under Japan’s Grant Aid, “The Project for Emergency Rehabilitation and Reinforcement of Lagos Transmission Substations,” amounting to approximately JPY 2.35 billion and implemented through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Through the installation of two new 60MVA transformers and other equipment, the capacity of the Apapa Road Transmission Substation was increased from 60MVA to 180MVA.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Federal Ministry of Power, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Lagos State Government, JICA, JETRO and Japanese companies, among other stakeholders.
The upgraded substation is expected to improve the stability and reliability of electricity supply to Apapa and surrounding areas, including Lagos Port and nearby industrial and commercial areas, thereby contributing to Nigeria’s economic and social development.
Japan will continue to support Nigeria’s sustainable economic and social development through development cooperation.
