On 26 August, Ms. TAKAHASHI Misako, Director-General and Assistant Minister of the African Affairs Department at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Ambassador SUZUKI Hideo paid a courtesy call on Ms. Beatrice Eyong, UN Women Nigeria Country Representative.
The meeting covered Nigeria’s gender equality landscape, UN Women’s efforts to advance women’s leadership, economic empowerment, and protection from gender-based violence, as well as examples of collaboration with Japanese partners across Africa.
Ms. TAKAHASHI conveyed Japan’s appreciation for UN Women Nigeria’s sustained work, highlighted Japan’s ongoing collaboration to empower women and girls and strengthen community resilience, and thanked Ms. Eyong and her team for their valuable insights.
She also emphasized the importance of demonstrating measurable outcomes to foster public understanding and support in Japan for development cooperation. To this end, we will continue constructive engagement with UN Women Nigeria to promote positive change for women and girls across the country.
