JICA Sends 19 Promising Nigerian Scholars to Study in Japan

On 12 August 2026, Ambassador SUZUKI Hideo attended the Orientation and Send-Forth Ceremony for the 13th batch of the Africa Business Education (ABE) Initiative, Agri-Net, PREPARE, KIZUNA, and Education & Governance programmes at the JICA Nigeria office in Abuja.
The Ambassador congratulated the 19 scholars and encouraged them to make the most of their studies and experiences in Japan as “ichigo ichie”, (one time, one chance), while learning from Japan’s culture of discipline, teamwork and continuous improvement.
The Ambassador also expressed his hope that the scholars will soar to great heights as leaders who will shoulder the future not only of Nigeria, but of the entire African continent. He urged the scholars to become a “kakehashi” - the bridge- between Japan and Nigeria, and to contribute to Nigeria’s development and the enduring friendship between Japan and Africa.
