Embassy of Japan and IOM Strengthen Cooperation on Migration and Humanitarian Response in Nigeria

On 31 March 2026, Ambassador SUZUKI Hideo received Ms. Sharon Dimanche, Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nigeria, and her delegation at the Embassy. Discussions focused on Nigeria’s evolving migration context and ongoing humanitarian challenges, including displacement and the impact of insecurity and climate change.
 
Ms. Dimanche expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support to IOM’s programmes, particularly in strengthening healthcare services. She highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration to address complex migration dynamics and improve conditions for affected populations.
 
The Ambassador acknowledged the challenges and welcomed progress made under Japan-supported initiatives. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in addressing migration, humanitarian needs, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
