Call for Entries: The 6th Nihongo Speech Contest

The Embassy of Japan in Nigeria is excited to announce the 6th Nihongo Speech Contest! We invite all passionate Japanese language learners to showcase their skills and compete for recognition.
 
Preliminary Round:
Submit a video of your Japanese speech to the embassy by February 22, 2026 (see details below). Only selected candidates will advance to the Main Round.
 
Main Round: A live competition will be held on March 14, 2026, in Abuja, for the selected participants.
 
Submission Guidelines:
Eligibility: Open to Nigerian citizens residing in Nigeria (Japanese language teachers and previous recipients of the Best Performance Award in this contest are not eligible).
 
Categories:
Beginner: Participants with no prior experience of staying in Japan, those with less than one month of stay in Japan, or those who have not studied Japanese at university.
Experienced: Participants with one month or more experience staying in Japan (e.g. for study abroad), or those who have studied Japanese at university.
 
Application Process:
Upload your video to a cloud platform, social media, or YouTube.

Video Requirements:
  • One video submission per applicant.
  • Speech must be in Japanese and no longer than 3 minutes.
  • Open theme. Themes that demonstrate original thinking, rather than simply describing experiences of staying in Japan, may receive higher scores.
  • Videos must be single-take, unedited recordings (static camera).
  • The file size must be less than 1GB, and the format must be either MP4 or MOV.
