The Embassy of Japan in Nigeria has a vacancy for Assistant for Economic and Development Cooperation Section.

1. Vacant Position
・ Title: Assistant for Economic and Development Cooperation Section
  • Contract period: One year*
    * It is renewable annually if the performance assessment is satisfactory. Signing of the contract is subject to 3 (three)-month probationary period.
・ Location: Embassy of Japan in Nigeria
   No.9, Bobo Street (off Gana Street), Maitama, Abuja, Nigeria
・ Salary, Bonus and Allowance*: They will be determined according to the skills and experiences of the successful candidate.
・ Full/Part time: Full-time (38 hours 45 minutes/week)*.
* The position will require occasional overtime work (including evenings, weekends and/or holidays).
・ Working Hours:
Mon – Thu: 8:00 to 17:30 (Lunch break: 12:00 to 13:00)
Fri: 8:00 to 12:45
  • Holidays: Selected Japanese and Nigerian national holidays.
  • Annual leave: Provided according to the number of years of service.

2. Job Description
・ Collect latest news, data and information on the Nigerian economy and development cooperation, analyze trends on economic and development landscape, and report to diplomats
Manage existing relationships with governmental/non-governmental entities while developing wider networks with relevant stakeholders
Work necessary for the smooth implementation of development cooperation projects in Nigeria funded by the Government of Japan
Drafting speeches and presentations
Taking notes and taking minutes at meetings
Other administrative and logistical work assigned by the Chief of the Section

3. Qualifications/Skills/Experience
・ A degree in economics, economic policy or development cooperation studies is desirable (Bachelor's degree or above).
・ Extensive knowledge and interest in economics/development cooperation studies
Good ability to gather information on the economy/development cooperation from reliable sources
Ability to communicate smoothly with the Nigerian government and other relevant stakeholders for preparation, implementation and monitoring of the projects in Nigeria funded by the Government of Japan
Good communication skills and ability to prepare required documents
Ability to work in a team and adhere to deadlines.

・ Computer skills/knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PPT and Word, etc...)
・ Cheerful, courteous and cooperative manner in dealings with all members of Embassy staff and guests;
・ Demonstration of flexibility and versatility;
・ Written and oral communication skills in English;
・ Attention to detail and thoroughness in following through with tasks to completion;
・ Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and work within a team;
・ Personal integrity and an honest and ethical approach.

・Only successful candidates will be contacted for a computer skills assessment and an interview
・A second interview may be conducted.
・Reference verification may be conducted during the selection period.
