Ambassador’s Commendation Award given to Professor Adedoyin Aguoru the President of the African Association for Japanese Studies

On October 7, 2025, Mr. Shin Honda, Acting Deputy Head of Mission, attended the 6th annual conference of the African Association for Japanese Studies (AAJS), held at the Trenchard Hall of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, on behalf of Ambassador Suzuki. It was the first day of 3-day long conference.
Mr. Honda delivered the Ambassador’s opening remarks at the conference. He reiterated how proud the Embassy has been to support AAJS activities over the years and pledged to continue supporting the Association as a key partner in strengthening Japan-Africa cooperation.
In the evening, the Embassy of Japan hosted a reception for the Ambassador’s commendation award recipient, Professor Adedoyin Aguoru, President of the African Association for Japanese Studies (AAJS). Mr. Honda presented her with the Award on behalf of Ambassador Suzuki. This special recognition was made in acknowledgment of her outstanding contributions to the advancement of academic and cultural exchange between Japan and Africa, as well as her significant efforts in promoting Japanese studies across the African continent.
In a speech delivered on behalf of Ambassador Suzuki, Mr. Honda said that Professor Aguoru’s remarkable achievements were highly commended, and the Embassy hopes to maintain strong and positive relations with both the African Association for Japanese Studies and the University of Ibadan.
