Book Donation Ceremony to the University of Maiduguri

2025/8/6

On 2 August 2025, Ambassador SUZUKI Hideo handed over 183 books to the University of Maiduguri as part of the “Read Japan Project.” This donation, facilitated by the Tokyo Foundation and the Nippon Foundation, reflects Japan’s support for Nigeria’s educational development and youth empowerment.

During the ceremony, Ambassador SUZUKI described the books as "powerful tools for learning and discovery." He celebrated the deep partnership with the university, giving a special shout-out to the vibrant "NARUTO" Japanese Culture Club and calling it a "wonderful bridge between our cultures."

The books were warmly received by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele, who was joined by university officials including Prof. Mohammed Dauda, the founder of the NARUTO club. In a fantastic development, the Vice-Chancellor announced that a dedicated Japanese Corner will be established in the university's Ramat Library.

This is a testament to the growing friendship and cultural exchanges between Japan and Nigeria. We look forward to seeing students exploring new worlds through these books!
