Japan Supports UNESCO Initiative to Advance Girls' Education in West Africa

On 12 May 2025, Charge d'Affaires KOZAKI Hitoshi attended the UNESCO IICBA Validation Workshop on Situational Analysis and Baseline Assessment for the Japan-funded Project on Capacity Building of Teachers to Promote Continuous and Inclusive Access to Safe and Quality Education for Girls in West Africa.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu, Honourable Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Honourable Minister of State for Education, and Dr. Quentin Wodon, Director of UNESCO IICBA. Discussions focused on addressing educational disparities and developing strategic interventions to support girls' education in the region.

Ahead of the upcoming TICAD 9 in August this year, the Government of Japan will continue to commit to advancing educational initiatives that aim to expand educational resources and opportunities for girls.
