Handover Ceremony, as Japan Strengthens Anambra State’s Disaster Response with Emergency Equipment

On 30 January 2025, Mr. KOZAKI Hitoshi, Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria, attended the handover ceremony of the "Emergency Support to Climate Disasters in Anambra State, Nigeria" project.
Dr Gilbert Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Ms. Chiamaka Nnake, the Commissioner, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning of Anambra State, Dr. Felix Chinedu Odimegwualso, the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment of Anambra State, also attended the ceremony.
The Japan-funded project, implemented by UNOPS, provides the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) with essential emergency response resources such as various vehicles (trucks and SUVs) and ICT equipment (laptops, photocopiers, and GPS vehicle trackers) to combat floods and natural disasters Concrete measures and support from Japan to help build capacities for disaster management are based on its own national experience as a disaster-prone country and driven by its international commitment to supporting the sustainable development of Africa.
Japan remains committed to supporting Africa's response to climate challenges and strengthening disaster risk management capabilities.
