Message from Ambassador-Designate SUZUKI Hideo
2024/11/12

It is my great pleasure and honour to be posted to the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the Ambassador-Designate of Japan.
As the largest economy and democracy in Africa, with a population of approximately 220 million and a GDP exceeding $360 billion, Nigeria is a dynamic force in both Western Africa and Africa as a whole. It is truly a dynamic country that deserves to be called the “Giant of Africa.”
For over six decades, Japan and Nigeria have cultivated strong ties across political, economic, and cultural spheres. For example, over 50 Japanese companies have established operations in Nigeria, contributing to sectors ranging from gas and manufacturing to startup investments.
Beyond economy, Japan is committed to promoting peace and stability in Nigeria, the Sahel region, and the Gulf of Guinea. We provide extensive development assistance across Nigeria, including support for food security, livelihoods, and healthcare targeting internally displaced persons in northeastern Nigeria. The visit of the Japanese Foreign Minister to Nigeria in April 2024 underscores the growing strength of our diplomatic relationship.
Looking ahead, the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), scheduled for August 2025, marks a significant milestone in Japan-Africa relations. We are eager to deepen our ties with Nigerians from all walks of life and contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria and the wider African continent through TICAD 9.
I will make utmost efforts to ensuring the safety and security of Japanese residents in Nigeria, supporting the activities of Japanese businesses operating here, and further developing our bilateral relationship.
